COC Adds Over 200 Short-Term Classes To Spring Semester

College of the Canyons (COC) has announced the addition of over 200 short-term classes to the 2021 spring semester.

More than 200 short-term classes are still open to students looking to enroll in the College of the Canyons spring 2021 semester. The 8-week short-term classes have start dates throughout April, with some 5-week courses set to begin in May.

A wide range of classes are set to be offered to both new and returning students, including subjects such as anthropology, architecture, administration of justice, astronomy, automotive technology, business, computer and web technologies.

Some other offered courses include communications, counseling, arts, early childhood education, economics, first and second languages, geography, nursing, psychology, sociology, and welding.

These courses are also available to high school students as well, as many of them satisfy four-year university transfer requirements.

The School of Personal and Professional Learning (PPL), which provides lifelong learning classes to residents of all ages and skill levels at no cost, is also scheduled to offer short-term classes throughout April and May.

Santa Clarita residents can choose from PPL classes such as the Business of Acting, Instructional Aide Training, Essential Reading and Writing Skills and English as a Second Language.

PPL is also offering classes that focus on awareness, identification and prevention of Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children.

In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, short-term classes are set to be held in three different formats:

  • OnlineLIVE – These classes are held via Zoom on the days and times listed on the class schedule. Students will not be able to register for two classes that meet at the same time.
  • Online – These classes do not meet live, thus giving students the flexibility to complete instruction at their convenience.
  • InPerson – These classes require in-person instruction. Strict health protocols are set to be followed for everyone’s safety.

Some classes utilize both Online and OnlineLive formats, with details provided in each specific class schedule.

Registration for short-term classes are set to remain open until classes are filled.

COC plans to classify students who enroll in a short-term class as “returning students” prior to the upcoming summer session registration period, which is scheduled to begin April 26.
