Planning Commission Approves Development Of Nearly 100 Condos In Newhall

The City of Santa Clarita’s Planning Commission approved the development of nearly 100 detached condos near the site of the Dockweiler Drive extension project in Newhall Tuesday.

During their regular meeting Tuesday, the Santa Clarita Planning Commission approved the development of 93 detached single-family condominium units, according to officials with the City.

The approval came after the Planning Commission added three modifications to the initial proposal, including the addition of a sign that lists the phone numbers for both the contractor and the City of Santa Clarita during construction, an examination of whether or not it would be “feasible” to add a secondary emergency exit in the area, and a limit to the heavy construction between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, according to officials.

The 93-condo project is set to be located at the corner of Sierra Highway and Dockweiler Drive in Newhall, according to Mike White with the developer, Dockweiler 21, LLC.

“The condos are detached, and are designed to look like homes,” White said in a previous story. “It is a lot like Via Metro, but with more space in between.”

Surrounding the proposed development are single-family homes, apartments and the cross streets of Sierra Highway and Dockweiler Drive.

“We have pretty good support from the neighborhood,” White said. “We wanted the project to ‘fit in’ with the surrounding community.”

Originally submitted on Sept. 25, the project had been delayed by several weeks due to the easement agreements not being completed in time for agenda posting, according to the commission.

The next step in the project is for the developer to draft and submit engineering design drawings of the project to the City of Santa Clarita, according to Planning Commision officials.

  1. we don’t need anymore people living in SCV.!!! We already have bad traffic and bad drivers out here. We don’t need anymore people. We need another hospital out here NOT anymore house/condos.

  2. This has made me angry!???! The city of Santa Clarita has an obsession with filling every inch Of our with houses. We are in our way to a the next “Valley”. I live off the 14 between Sand Canyon and Sierra Highway. This Monstrosity of homes and apartments they are building has ruined my view. I had to pay more for my houseBecause we had a view. You have taken away my view and I will not get that money back when I sell my house!

  3. Mr. White is wrong! He does not have the support of the people in the neighborhood. We own our home up on dockweiler and this is not something that we want. We do not approve of any structure being built. Traffic is already horrible as it is.

Stop building! Your killing this planet!

  4. Omg the comment is ?

  5. Are there “kick backs” for these building approvals?
    Just curious

  6. I am with the other comments above. You are ruining this city and traffic will be worse than it is now. Good luck during fire season ???
I see what is happening in this state and they are pushing people out who have lived here most of their lives. Best of luck. More accidents, thefts etc.

  7. People in charge of our town are not working for the people anymore(20+ years and counting) Greed has taken over and they will not stop until every square inch is covered by homes. Traffic is out of control as well as our crime. Even our own Sheriffs dept. says they can not support a town of this size. This town has turned into the valley with a new paint job.

  8. Gridlock during the Tick fire evacuation doesn’t matter? This is ludicrous. Who appoints this planning commission?

  9. Detached condos will help class up that section of town. Santa Clarita does in fact need more homes because we have a shortage and prices are insane. I love the idea that homes with backyards are coming in. Homes are going to be built regardless because we’ve been a planned community for 30+ years but at least these look nice. Traffic does suck but they are grading for a freeway expansion ??‍♀️
