Santa Clarita’s Boy Scout Troop 2 Turns 100

On Sunday, Boy Scout Troop 2 celebrated its 100th year of service, having been founded in 1922 in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Generations of scouts gathered Saturday to celebrate the troop that has been operating in Santa Clarita for 100 years.

The night’s celebration took place at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex, where both Assemblywoman Suzette Valladares, R-Santa Clarita, and Mayor Laurene Weste spoke to past and present scouts.

“I’ve lived most of my life in Newhall and there’s always been a Troop 2,” Weste said. “I get to speak to many groups in our valley and one of the most special things to me is the scouts. They are the foundation of America.”

Troop 2 was established in April of 1922 and has been chartered through the Santa Clarita Kiwanis Club since 1930. It is the oldest scout troop in the Santa Clarita Valley and has been meeting at Newhall Elementary School since 1934.

Community service is a strongly emphasized quality of a scout, with many scouts engaging in projects that serve the public.

“Getting to speak to future leaders of our city is one of the highlights of my life,” said Weste.

For the rest of the night’s festivities scouts heard from prominent past scouts and leaders before enjoying a catered dinner.
