Kilo Of Cocaine, $10,000 In Cash Discovered After Newhall Traffic Stop

A Newhall traffic stop last week yielded a kilo of cocaine and $10,000 in cash, with the driver and passenger having a restraining order against each other, officials said.

On Thursday, July 2, around 11:15 p.m. a crime suppression patrol unit, dedicated to the Newhall area, conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle code violation on the 24500 block of Lyons Avenue, according to Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

After making contact with the female driver, 26, and the male passenger, 25, both of Bakersfield, deputies found that the female was driving on a suspended license, according to Miller.

“A further check revealed that the female had a restraining order against the male who was riding in her passenger seat,” Miller said.

Inside the vehicle deputies located a large amount of cocaine, over a kilo, and U.S. currency, approximately $10,000 in cash, according to Sheriff’s officials.

Both suspects were arrested on felony charges of transporting narcotics, according to Miler.

The male adult was additionally arrested for disobeying a domestic court order and the female adult was also charged with driving on a suspended license, Miller said.

The suspects were transported and booked at Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and their vehicle was towed.
