Santa Clarita Weekend Crime Round-Up: Drug, Alcohol Crimes Slightly Decrease

The number of drug- and alcohol-related crimes reported in the Santa Clarita Valley over the weekend slightly decreased compared to the weekend before, according to officials.

Between Friday, June 14 and Sunday, June 16, 34 crimes were reported by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and the California Highway Patrol Newhall office, according to weekend booking logs.

Of those 34 reported crimes, 21 were on drug- and alcohol-related charges, with 11 arrests reported for driving under the influence, five for possession of controlled substances, three for being under the influence of a controlled substance and two for possession of drug paraphernalia.

This is a slight decrease from the previous weekend, where 24 drug- and alcohol-related crimes were reported between June 7 and June 9, according to arrest logs.

Over a third of reported crimes were allegedly committed by people who gave home addresses outside of the Santa Clarita Valley, according to the logs.

One of these individuals was a man from Eureka who was arrested in Castaic Saturday for allegedly being in possession of narcotics and a large sum of money.

On Saturday, deputies were patrolling in Castaic when they spotted a “suspicious vehicle” on Hasley Canyon Road, according to Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the station.

After making contact with the male driver, who was reportedly on his way to San Diego, deputies discovered that he was doing “far more” than transporting marijuana plants in the bed of his truck, Miller said.

He was allegedly in possession of over 30 grams of black tar heroin and “China White”, a high grade form of heroin, along with more than $7,000 in U.S. currency.

The man was arrested for felony narcotics sales, according to Sheriff’s officials.

  1. This is the time to inject 500cc into a vein and see if he feels good.

  2. Are these numbers reflecting arrest made by CHP? CHP was in full force with DUI inspections coming out of Boots and Brews and we saw atleast 8 people being put in the back of patrol cars
