Walking In L.A. Gets Better With Dr. Polucki

By Dr. Thomas Polucki

Whenever we go to Downtown Los Angeles we find amazing new treasures to see, hear and taste. Recently we feasted at Grand Central Market, took a tour of City Hall, fell in love with Union Station and walked four miles for a bowl of Acai.

My chiropractor is in Los Angeles, so when I go, my wife Toni and I love to explore L.A. on foot, because walking is the most common doctor recommended exercise and we get to experience so much more at walking pace.

From our favorite parking lot in the jewelry district, we walked to Grand Central Market for some late breakfast. With so many sensational choices and a long day ahead we just picked the shortest line this time.

We enjoyed delicious breakfast sandwiches from Valerie’s. The sourdough grilled Gruyere cheese and egg sandwiches with onion marmalade were perfect fuel for our adventure.Grand Central Market

Then we walked to City Hall where we met an outstanding guard, Luiz Ortega. Luiz shared little-known facts about City Hall’s construction and history. Also he directed us to some amazing pictures of Los Angeles history on the fourth floor. After that we went up to the observation floor for some breathtaking views of the city.

Next stop, Union Station, surrounded by gorgeous Art Deco. You feel more like you’re in a movie set than a functioning train station.

And finally it was off to find Amazebowls and devour one of those “Acai Bowls Too Pretty To Eat” according to the magazine Los Angeles. Further off the track than we expected, the off the menu coconut bowl was worth the walk.

It starts with a frozen coconut half, filled with acai puree. Acai is an Amazon berry that has a lot of antioxidant power. Then diced fruit and edible flowers top the acai puree and it does look amazing. But I had no problem eating it!

Altogether we walked four miles from Hill and Sixth to Amazebowls on Sante Fe. And we took a more direct route back, but that’s a whole other story.
