Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital officials are continuing their “Safe in Our Care” campaign in an effort to encourage those in need to feel comfortable seeking medical care during the current pandemic.

The campaign was launched in an effort to educate the community on what procedures and processes have been put in place to keep patients and visitors safe during the coronavirus pandemic, according to officials.
“Since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak, visits to hospital emergency departments have declined across the country, including in the Santa Clarita Valley,” said Dr. Larry Kidd, Henry Mayo’s chief clinical officer. “The fact is, hospitals are extremely safe environments. We want people to know that so they don’t postpone needed medical care.”
The “Safe in Our Care” campaign features a number of short videos that explain safety procedures in place for patients and visitors at the hospital, as well as the added cleaning measures and other precautions being taken at the hospital.

Emergency Department patients must have their temperatures taken and answer a number of screening questions outside the department as they arrive. Any patients with fevers or other risk factors are isolated from other patients, officials said.
In addition, patients in need of elective procedures are screened over the phone prior to their scheduled appointments, and those in need of surgery are tested for COVID-19 three to five days beforehand, with temperatures also taken when they arrive.
Patients in need of routine care like annual mammograms or physical therapy are also screened over the phone and in person, officials said.
Temperatures are taken for all patients, visitors and employees when they arrive at the hospital, with all visitors and staff members required to wear face masks at all times.
Additional cleaning measures are also being taken, including wiping down pens and clipboards following every use.
“The one thing we want our patients to know,” said Kidd, “is that they are safe in our care.”
