Thursday, Senator Suzette Valladares, R-Santa Clarita, sent a letter to Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara asking him to include the victims of the Hughes Fire in the mandate protecting wildfire victims from insurance cancellation and non-renewal.
The letter asks specifically for Hughes Fire victims to be included in the protections from Insurance Bulletin 2025-1 which dictates that insurers cannot cancel or refuse to renew a policy of residential property insurance for property owners impacted by recent wildfires for a period of one year.
“I am working on all fronts to ensure the victims of the Hughes Fire have all of the support and resources they need. It is vital that insurance companies keep the promises they have made to homeowners, and I urge Commissioner Lara to extend these protections to those impacted by the Hughes Fire as quickly as possible,” said Senator Valladares.
