Foothill League Week 7 Preview: Playoff Push Intensifies Across The League

Week 7 of the Foothill League season brings high-stakes matchups that could determine playoff seeding as Hart looks to remain on top, Valencia continues its undefeated league run, and Saugus pushes to climb the standings. With only a few weeks left, every game is critical in shaping the playoff picture.

At the top of the Foothill League is Hart (5-2, 3-0), followed closely by Valencia (5-1, 2-0). Golden Valley (4-3, 2-1) sits in third, while Saugus (5-2, 1-2) is beginning to find momentum. Let’s dive into the Week 7 matchups across the Foothill League:

Saugus (5-2, 1-2) vs. West Ranch (1-5, 0-2)

KHTS Game of the Week – 7 p.m. at COC’s Cougar Stadium

Saugus has had a turnaround season in the Foothill League, already surpassing their win total from the past two years combined. The Centurions opened the year with four straight wins and picked up a key Foothill League victory last week.

Quarterback Jake Nuttall leads the Foothill League in passing yards (1,425) and touchdowns (18), tied with Hart’s Jacob Paisano. In the backfield, Ty Hall adds to the offensive punch with 661 rushing yards and nine touchdowns.

A win tonight is crucial for Saugus as they aim to stay in the hunt for the third seed in the Foothill League playoff race.

West Ranch enters tonight’s game facing multiple challenges. Quarterback Blake Johnson, who missed the start of the season with an injury, is still easing back into the offense. The Wildcats also lost Max Piccolino, the reigning Foothill League Lineman of the Year, to a season-ending injury early in the year.

First-year head coach TJ Yonkers has been guiding a young and injury-plagued team through a tough Foothill League campaign. While their playoff chances are slim, a strong finish to the season could be a building block for 2026.

Hart (5-2, 3-0) vs. Castaic (0-6, 0-2)

7 p.m. at Canyon High School

Hart enters tonight’s matchup atop the Foothill League standings and riding a four-game winning streak. The team has showcased one of the most dynamic offenses in the league.

Matix Frithsmith leads the Foothill League in both rushing yards (731) and receiving yards (650), averaging over 100 rushing and 90 receiving yards per game. His 16 total touchdowns also lead the league. Quarterback Jacob Paisano is tied for the league lead in passing yards with 1,425 and has formed a dangerous duo with Frithsmith.

Castaic has endured a challenging season in the Foothill League. The Coyotes lost 16 players to transfers in the offseason and have struggled with injuries, including playing with just 24 players in one early-season game.

Quarterback Aidan Mojica is learning on the fly in his first year under center, and though the team has yet to find the win column, their grit and determination have been evident each week.

Tonight’s test against Hart will be one of Castaic’s toughest Foothill League matchups of the season.

Valencia (5-1, 2-0) vs. Canyon (1-6, 1-2)

7 p.m. at Valencia High School

Valencia has been dominant in Foothill League play, outscoring their first two league opponents by a combined 103–14. Their non-league schedule featured impressive wins over Simi Valley, Chaminade, and Paraclete, along with a narrow 42–38 loss to Bishop Amat.

Quarterback Brady Brettauer has been electric, throwing for 924 yards and 13 touchdowns while adding 415 rushing yards and four scores on the ground. He’s joined in the backfield by Washington commit Brian Bonner, who has totaled 633 rushing yards, 199 receiving yards, and 10 total touchdowns.

Elias Holloway, a transfer, has made a major impact on both sides of the ball. He leads the team with 416 receiving yards and five touchdowns, and also paces the defense with two interceptions and three pass breakups.

Canyon started the season 0–5 but has shown improvement in recent weeks. Last week’s performance against Saugus was one of their most competitive outings. The Cowboys rely on a strong running back tandem in Keyshawn Wooten and Samaj Richardson, who have powered much of the offense during Foothill League play.

While Valencia is heavily favored, Canyon’s development and rushing attack could make this a more competitive matchup than expected.

Golden Valley (4-3, 2-1)

Bye Week

Golden Valley is off this week and will return next Thursday for a major Foothill League clash with Valencia.
