Last Friday’s West Ranch/Saugus game at Cougar Stadium followed the same script of the Wildcats’ first seven games: deft offensive precision, big plays on defense, and a blowout victory.
It was a record setting night for Walker Eget and the West Ranch offense. One explosive play after another, to which the Saugus Centurions had no answer for. Eget dominated Saugus in what is the top quarterback performance of the season by a Foothill League, or Santa Clarita Valley player, thus far. His numbers on the night: 25-for-37 for 451 yards and seven touchdowns.
That’s the most in a single game by a West Ranch quarterback, and his 27 touchdown passes this season breaks the record set by his own brother, Weston, as told by his other brother.
I want to congratulate my little bro @WalkerEget on shattering the single game TD record with 7, and breaking the Single Season TD’s record with 27, it ain’t yours no more @WestonEget ??♂️ https://t.co/QfTrmru8PF

All night long, Eget either hit wide open receivers against zone defense, or the likes of Nicholas Kohl and Brandon Wyre soundly won their one on one matchups when in man coverage. There was nothing Saugus could do to stop it.
West Ranch started the scoring on their first drive, with Walker Eget hitting Zach Van bennekum for the first of seven, seven, passing touchdowns. Van bennekum was a force on both sides of the ball, finishing with eight catches for 77 yards and three touchdowns on offense, and an interception to go along with four tackles on defense.
The Wildcats held just a 6-0 lead after the first quarter, but the second quarter belonged to them, and one player in particular: junior wideout Nicholas Kohl. Kohl was unstoppable on two long touchdown catches.
In the blink of an eye the Wildcats had a 26-7 lead going into half time.
The career nights for Walker Eget and Nicholas Kohl continued in the second half, as the pair would connect for a third touchdown with under a minute to go in the third quarter. Kohl finished with nine catches for 213 yards and the hat trick.

The Wildcats were so dominant in the passing game that in the midst of it all, senior Brandon Wyre’s four catches for 122 yards and a touchdown might get overlooked. In all, seven different receivers caught passes.
The 53-20 win is the fifth 50 point game of the season for coach Chris Varner’s team.
At 8-0, West Ranch has matched the best start in program history. That was set last year. A win this Friday in a showdown with Hart would set another program record.
