Dry Santa Ana winds are expected to peak early Tuesday morning in the Santa Clarita Valley, bringing dangerous fire conditions to the area.
Winds in the Santa Clarita Valley are expected to strengthen into Tuesday, bringing dangerous fire conditions to our communities, said Bryan Lewis, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service (NWS).
“The Santa Clarita Valley is under a red flag warning that will go through Wednesday at 6 p.m.,” Lewis said.
Winds are expected to start increasing Monday night into Tuesday, according to Lewis.
The northeast Santa Ana winds are expected to remain strong from Tuesday at 4 a.m. until Wednesday at noon, according to officials.
The northern and southern parts of the Santa Clarita Valley are expected to see the strongest winds, according to officials.
“In the mountain areas there is a particularly dangerous situation, with gusts in mountain areas up to 70 mph with really low relative humidity in the single digits,” Lewis said.
The hope of seeing rain in Santa Clarita this weekend has dissipated with dry conditions expected throughout next week, according to Officials.
Sunday into Monday, a chance of a moderate Santa Ana wind event is predicted which, as of Monday, weather officials believe will not be as strong as last week’s windstorm.
Due to the continuous dry vegetation and strong Santa Ana winds, residents in high-risk fire areas are being urged to be ready to evacuate if a fire erupts.
If a fire does spark during these conditions, it is predicted it will grow rapidly and unpredictably.
