Officials from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station confirmed Sunday that no arrests had been made, and no serious injuries were reported during Saturday’s Black Lives Matter protest.
Hundreds of Black Lives Matter protestors gathered at the corner of McBean Parkway and Valencia Boulevard Saturday in response to the death of George Floyd on May 25.
By 11:30 a.m., the protestors had moved over to the front of Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station off of the intersection of Valencia Blvd. and Magic Mountain Parkway.
Lt. Ethan Marquez, who was serving as the station’s Watch Commander at the time, addressed the crowd of protesters outside the station just before noon, stating that there were “peaceful” protesters.

Saturday’s demonstration did not involve any arrests or injuries according to Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“It was without incident,” Miller said. “Our deputies handled the situation very well and all was kept orderly.”
By 2 p.m. Saturday, the organized crowd was deemed an “unlawful assembly” by sheriff’s officials, who had arrived at the intersection of McBean Parkway and Valencia Boulevard.
“We were prepared for whatever could have happened,” Miller added. “We prepared for the worst case scenario but thankfully all turned out okay.”

Where did these people bus in from? OBVIOUSLY NOT SCV Locals!
No, I watched as the local SCV students arrived in their cars. Locals parked & walked from the Whole Foods/ Islands parking lot.
I’m just sorry I missed the memo on this or I would have made it there. Perhaps they weren’t all SCV locals, but *this* local is in full support over in Canyon Country.
Same here, I’m a local for 20+ years and I’m down. They need to wake up.
I’d like to ask the sheriffs what was unlawful about the gathering? What law was broken?
That’s a great question, one that was also relevant when people gathered for their freedom a week ago but they were deemed unlawful and selfish due to protection against Covid-19. I believe this time they were just saying they received a call regarding a mass gathering that seemed to be getting riled up but once they arrived everything was fine.
They did not get a required permit to have this protest. If they had the correct paperwork, it would have been fine.
It was deemed unlawful when they blocked the intersection and didn’t respond the police telling them to move. Once it was deemed unlawful the police started to move in and they got out of the way.
There is a reason why people moved first to the San Fernando Valley and then to the SCV and now moving to AZ and Idaho
We need justice/police reform desperately. Peaceful demonstration is acceptable. No looters allowed. It was reported that people from out of town were the people looting and that there was a separate congregation of peaceful demonstrators in LA.
The sheriffs did a fine job remaining patient, repeating their orders, being professional and calm so as to not incite any violence. I thank them for that.
The protesters were equally magnificent. The SCV curfew should be removed, or should start no sooner than 9 or 10pm to allow free expressions of speech and assembly.
