The Tick Fire that raged through Santa Clarita beginning last Thursday has caused severe damage to the KHTS AM-1220 Transmitter.
KHTS 98.1 FM continues to operate without any challenges. We urge all listeners to tune into 98.1
The transmitter, located on 14-acres on Sierra Highway, next to the iconic Half Way House café, roared through the property and surrounding areas. KHTS lost its back up power system to the fire as well as the transmission lines from our Main Street, Newhall studio to the Canyon Country transmitter. The three tall towers have been compromised. Engineers are working on getting the AM stabilized.
Currently, Southern California Edison has shut off power to the area and with no back up system, KHTS AM will have to wait until power is restored to resume broadcasting.
KHTS has been providing emergency coverage throughout the fire and will continue to broadcast over 98.1 FM, over the internet at www.hometownstation.com and through our phone apps available for free download from your App Store. The station is also available on all smart speakers.
We expect KHTS AM-1220 to resume broadcasting as soon as power is restored in the area.
