2,136 Coronavirus Cases Reported In L.A. County, At Least 42 Santa Clarita Cases

A total of 2,136 confirmed coronavirus, COVID-19, cases have been reported in Los Angeles County as of Sunday afternoon, with at least 42 cases in the Santa Clarita Valley, officials said.

332 cases have been reported on Sunday alone within the county, according to officials with the Los Angeles Department of Public Health.

Another five deaths have also been reported, adding up to a total of 37 deaths in Los Angeles County.

Five of the six deaths reported Saturday occurred in people over the age of 60, and one death was reported for an individual between 50 – 60 years old. Two of these individuals, including the person between 50-60 years old, did not have any reported underlying health conditions.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to all the families and friends of individuals who have died. I ask that everyone please do your part to not infect others or become infected yourself by adhering to the public health directives and practicing social distancing,” said Barbara Ferrer, Los Angeles County Public Health Director.

Additional information regarding some of the new cases is pending further investigation. Over the last 48 hours, there have been 676 new cases.

453 people positive for COVID-19 (21 percent of positive cases) have required hospitalization, according to health officials.

“More than ever, it is crucial that we practice social distancing, and if we are sick, even with mild illness, make every effort to self- isolate from others for at least 7 days and 3 more days after being symptom free. Everyone should make plans for how you will manage in case you need to self- isolate or self-quarantine,” said Ferrer. “Those who have been in close contact with a person who is positive for COVID-19 should self-quarantine for 14 days. If we all commit ourselves to stay home, stay away from others when sick, and stay 6 feet apart when out, we will save lives. ”

As of Saturday, County statistics show that 38 of the local cases of coronavirus had been confirmed within the City of Santa Clarita, and four cases have been confirmed in the unincorporated areas of Castaic.

Additionally, the numbers for the unincorporated portions of Canyon Country, Valencia, and Stevenson Ranch have been “suppressed,” meaning there are between one and four confirmed cases for each community, according to the Department of Public Health.

  1. Why is there a problem with transparency with the numbers in unincorporated places like Canyon Country, Valencia, and Stevenson Ranch?! Why has that been “suppressed”? What’s up with that? I’d like to see numbers for the separate cities of Newhall, Saugus, Canyon Country, Valencia, and Castaic, etc. That alone would give us an idea of the hotspots in SCV and know which areas are (at the time) more infected! I’m SO tired of this”beating around the bush” in our local news, and not shooting it straight! All this sure isn’t putting to rest the notion of fake news! Just ridiculous!

    • Our county is doing the same thing. They won’t report on towns until there are at least 5 to protect the privacy of the people who are infected.

    • Agree w Lisa and Jo Jo. We need the break down by city within SCV. I have no idea if my area is a major contributor. SCV is spiking and we have no data on causes, age groups, infected contact circles or facilities, etc. We don’t need names or specifics. Give us a general business, facility, etc. I sense other priorities are at work here. I don’t much care for secrecy by those who wish to withhold information for their own reasons.
I no longer feel that I or my wife are safe going to grocery, drug store., or other business. I am avoiding all purchasing due lack of knowledge as to where the infections are occurring and if they are “community” based or within a generic limited group.

    • more then that!!! All the people that they have all infected and not knowing they had it! It’s a cycle this is why we need to stay home!!! Gotta double this number a few times then that’s what it really is

    • At this time, let’s treat every city as a hot spot and perhaps we will prevent them becoming one. I guarantee if for example it is published that there are no cases in Stevenson Ranch and people let their guard down and think that they are “safer”, before long the city will become a part of the long list of hotspots you are wanting to know about.

For now, let’s protect our cities, our friends and neighbors, our loved ones and especially those on the front line that are retrying so hard to keep us all healthy and provided for.

      This time shall pass.

  2. Interesting, what’s the common denominator in the “hot spots”??!! Interesting!! Again, KHTS’s supposed reporter’s don’t tell the truth to keep us safe!! If we knew 1 restroom at Central Park had more outbreaks, just like other problems/diseases, we would choose another area to be safe! Please tell the truths/facts!!

  3. Santa Clarita is a hotspot because it’s residents have been running around stores hoarding and behaving like animals
. I saw more crowds here than I did in Los Angeles in the early weeks of March. This city is an embarrassment to civilized society and morality. Can’t wait to move from here when it’s safe to pack up and go.

    • It’s happening everywhere. We have family all over the states as well as Canada, England, Sweden, and Germany, and everyone is saying the same thing. Toilet paper, paper towels, canned goods and staples are hard to come by. Shelves are empty thanks to hoarders.

  4. Dear Marco, cnn is not a trustworthy network FYI. Please be save.

  5. It doesn’t matter what city it is or to know where the hot spot is – the most important thing to do is to stay home. PLS STAY HOME!!!!!

  6. This is not the time to be boundary happy to look good. All unincorporated areas should be included. Absolutely ridiculous. As a person living in a unincorporated area boundary of SCV would like the full picture of what is happening across our valley. Prior to 1987 we were all one. This pandemic virus is important for all people to know the details and spread area’s. So please put your boundaries aside and include everyone. For those in all of SCV be careful and adhere to the recommendations so we can do our part to reduce the spread of this deadly monster called Corona virus.

    • Well said Theresa, I add this virus is no respect of city boundaries, streets, creed, sex, race,…etc. Just be safe for you and yours.

      • TEY there: What a flowery inclusive response—If we knew where the bad areas were, it would be more helpful than broad excusing. If Joes gas station had 80% positive & Mabels had 4% positive, which one would you go around?! Just like areas of a city that have horrible crime, if the truth/facts are covered-up we won’t know how to be more careful!!

  7. LOL!! Betty sounds triggered.
    Bye Betty!!!
