Two suspects who were involved in a 14 Freeway pursuit earlier this month are facing 60 felony charges, including attempted murder, officials said.
Dain Sanderson, 31, of Ferndale, and Jesse Janto, 38, of Orland, were arrested and charged with felony attempted murder, among numerous other charges, according to officials with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The pair was charged with 30 felony counts each, including four counts of attempted murder, according to Deputy Erin Liu.
Additional charges for each suspect included two counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling, nine counts of assault on a peace officer with firearms, felony reckless evading, possession of a controlled substance for sale, transportation or sale of a controlled substance and felony vandalism, according to Liu.
Around 9:30 p.m. on March 5, deputies from the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station observed a vehicle that they believed was being driven by an individual who may have been under the influence of an unknown substance, said Deputy Grace Medrano with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

“Based on their observation, deputies attempted to stop the car, but the vehicle fled in an attempt to evade law enforcement,” Medrano said.
After a short pursuit, deputies went into a surveillance tracking mode, where patrol deputies remain in the general area and only have the police helicopter follow the vehicle from the air, according to officials.
As the suspects fled in their vehicle, the suspect crashed into a gate at the Lockheed Martin facility and continued to drive through several chain link fences, at which time the driver allegedly shot at deputies from his moving vehicle, Medrano said.
The suspect’s vehicle then crashed through another gate and exited the facility.
As deputies re-engaged in the pursuit, the occupants in the vehicle allegedly fired several rounds at the LASD’s helicopter.
The suspects entered the southbound 14 Freeway towards Santa Clarita, where they were seen reportedly throwing a white substance from the vehicle.
Deputies deployed spike strips in an attempt to stop or disable the vehicle.
Once the chase entered the Santa Clarita area, deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station joined in on the pursuit.
As a result of the deployment of the spike strips, it caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, eventually coming to rest on the connector from the 5 Freeway to the 210 Freeway, Medrano said..
“The driver exited the vehicle with a TEC-9 handgun; it was at this time a deputy-involved shooting occurred,” Medrano said.
The suspect reportedly dropped the handgun, ran down the embankment and attempted to cross the northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway, according to Sheriff’s officials.

As the suspect fled, he was struck by a passing vehicle, and deputies were able to take him into custody with no further incident.
The suspect was taken to a local hospital and is listed in fair condition after sustaining a single gunshot wound to the leg during the deputy-involved shooting, Medrano said.
The second suspect exited the vehicle and was taken into custody with no further incident.
A second handgun was recovered in the suspects’ vehicle.
During the incident, a deputy who was chasing the driver on foot was struck by a vehicle on the freeway, according to Sheriff’s officials.
“He was transported to a local hospital and listed in good condition,” Medrano said.
Sanderson was arrested with bail set at $6,645,000, and Janto was given no bail, meaning he is to be held in custody until trial, according to arrest records.
The investigation is ongoing, and there is no additional information available at this time.
Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.

If convicted, they face how many years in prison total?
They’ll be out By morning to continue their & their buddies crime lifestyles!! Thanks Liberals with Prop. 47, 57 and AB 109 for the continued degradation from Seattle to San Diego!!
Not with 30 felony charges each they won’t. Hell, even if they get a magician for a lawyer who can knock off 20 of the charges (each), they are still facing 10 felonies (each) including attempted murder. They’re done.
They won’t need a “magician”, they already have Liberals in all levels of government & society!! Look at Seattle to San Diego!! Degeneration of American values!!
Get a grip dude what does the death penalty have to do with these guys… There is absolutely no link between the two. Further more after they exhaust their many appeals it been a very time consuming and tax dollar waste of time. You know what does that meth and a corrupt justice system that makes people fear to go to court. Ignorant judges and dirty cops have ruined the california penal institution. No longer do we have a good and bad guy, now we have a bad and worse guy. What’s worse is that the deputies act with almost complete immunity and indifference. They lie and bully people for the way they were treated growing up. That’s a fact! What needs to happen is that we need to have officers have stringent psychological tests done before acceptance into any law enforcement bjob that has them deciding people’s lives and carrying a weapon. Plus random drug testing to test for steroids. They are roid raging out. If you look at this video they surround this guy and keep punching him over and over and over. If I was him I would sue them. To have a badge and be a person of good for the community is a privelage. We need to start hiring people that care more and hate less. if we are hiring people carelessly because of the need for more cops, then that means maybe we are locking too many people up that don’t need incarceration. Maybe outreach or mentoring, counseling and therapy is the answer. This is obviously a failed system, when are we going to throw the towel in and rewrite how we treat people. Probably not in my lifetime. But your thinking sir is the exactly the hate and anger that causes this to happen. so if you need to blame someone blame yourself for your ignorant blunder that effects people in the worst way. Me I’ll pray for those affected with addictions and poverty and ask God to heal our hearts and minds.
