Los Angeles District Attorney Spokesman Ricardo Santiago said that Honorable Alan S. Rosenfield of the Superior Court of Los Angeles County sentenced Sogomonyan to:
-One day in county jail
-36-month summary probation
-48 days (480 hours) of community service
-Successful completion of an eight hour boating safety course by the Department of Boating and
Waterways, due within seven months
-Obey all laws, rules and orders of the court
Judge Rosenfield also ordered Sogomonyan to pay a fine of more than $420 which the defendant elected to convert to an additional 14 days of community service, said Santiago.
“The victim’s family consented to the resolution and agreed to seek their restitution in a pending civil action,” Santiago said.

On July 1, 2012, Serob Nagapetyan and 16-year-old Harut Emmanuel Shabazyan were riding together on a Waverunner jet ski in the no wake zone in front of Sogomonyan, who was in a jet drive Sterling Boat.
When the personal watercraft exited the no wake zone, they accelerated rapidly but completely lost power after about 10 seconds.
Nagapetyan turned to see how close Sogomonyan was and immediately was struck by his boat.
Shabazyan died as a result of the collision and Nagapetyan was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where he remained for 40 days recovering from his injuries.
Sogomonyan was arrested at his home in Encino and booked at the Sheriff’s Inmate Reception Center. He was subsequently released on a $25,000.00 bond.
