Reported Homeless Arrests Reach Six-Month High Over Thanksgiving Weekend

The number of homeless individuals arrested over the Thanksgiving weekend reportedly increased compared to the previous weekend, officials said.

Between Wednesday, Nov. 27 and Sunday, Dec. 1, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and officers with the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office reportedly made 53 arrests, according to weekend arrest records.

Of those 53 arrests, eight were reportedly made for transient individuals, according to booking logs.

This is the highest number of homeless individuals reportedly arrested over a weekend since Memorial Day weekend, with eight transient arrests reported between May 24 and May 27, according to officials.

Additionally, 25 of the arrests reported over the weekend were related to drugs and alcohol, according to weekend booking logs.

Of those arrests, 10 were reportedly made for instances of DUI, eight were reported instances of possession of a controlled substance, and seven were made for reported instances of being under the influence, according to arrest records.

This is slightly higher than the previous weekend’s total of 22 reported drug- and alcohol-related arrests, according to officials.

Roughly 42 percent of the arrests made over the Thanksgiving weekend were for individuals who reportedly gave home addresses outside of the Santa Clarita Valley, according to booking logs.

  1. Is this the new normal and money isn’t the answer. Let’s try angle bracelets to keep track of the homeless like their doing in London to terrorists doesn’t work food and money isn’t working so?

    • “angle”? You mean, “ankle”? “*their* doing”? You mean, “they’re doing”? And how about some punctuation? By the way, our homeless are mostly American veterans who served for YOU, they’re not terrorists.

  2. Exactly !!!!!!!!!!!! No ones tracking these transients and crimes they are committing yet they want government assist for free food and a roof over their head .Those who are homeless and obey our laws should be given assistance over those who are on drugs and committing crimes.

  3. Good work LE!! Arrest them for their crimes & 5150 them to TRY to help them with mental & drug abnormalities!! We don’t want SCV to become another Newsom, Garrcity, Bonin nightmare!
