Two Arrested After L.A. Fitness Assault With ‘Significant’ Injury, One Outstanding

Two suspects were arrested after an alleged assault at L.A. Fitness that caused “significant injury” to the victim last month, and one suspect is still outstanding, officials said Tuesday.

On Jan. 20 around 2:30 p.m., deputies received reports of an assault at the L.A. Fitness in the 24900 block of Pico Canyon Road Road in Stevenson Ranch, said Lt. Ignacio Somoano with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Detective Bureau.

“The victim engaged other occupants of the location in a couple of arguments,” Somoano said.

Three different suspects then allegedly physically attacked the victim, punching and striking him multiple times, Somoano said.

“The victim suffered a significant injury during the assault,” Somoano said.

Detectives from the Career Offenders, Robbery, Burglary Assault (COBRA) Unit are handling the investigation and have identified the three suspects.

Joshua Lee, 22, and Joseph Howard, 20, both of Valencia, were arrested and charged with aggravated assault, according to Sheriff’s officials.

COBRA detectives are still searching for the third suspect.

Lee and Howard were transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station with bail set at $30,000 for both suspects, according to arrest records.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
