Santa Ana winds are bringing dry conditions to the Santa Clarita Valley this weekend.
Beginning Thursday, northeast winds, better known as Santa Ana winds, are expected to start blowing through the Santa Clarita Valley, said Bryan Lewis, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service (NWS).
“Strongest winds are going to be Friday night into Saturday,” Lewis said. “We will start seeing some wind this morning, but tonight they will strengthen.”
Winds are expected to be 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph in “windier areas,” Lewis said.
The Santa Ana winds are expected to cause things to dry out, bringing the humidity levels down to around 10 to 20 percent, according to Lewis.
As of Thursday morning, no red flag warnings have been issued, though that could change, according to officials.
Winds are expected to shift Sunday to an on-shore flow, bringing moisture back to the area, Lewis said.
However, come next week, a stronger Santa Ana event is expected Monday through Wednesday morning, according to officials.
Although a strong Santa Ana event is expected, cooling is also in the forecast, with temperatures expected to be in the upper 60s, according to NWS officials.
